In a week’s time it’ll be Mothers’ Day, what’s a better time than now to show your appreciation to our moms by treating her the best items for her skin? In this guide we will talk all about anti-aging skincare.
Our moms have worked real hard to support the family, besides her regular job she has to maintain the household, cook and do house chores. All of these puts stress to her skin resulting in the skin being dark and rough, often dehydrated and hyperpigmentation. To counter these issues we have come up with a few skincare items you should be looking out for when buying your gift 🙂
Flowers, a staple to winning any women’s heart; besides the flower bouquets, you could consider flower skincare products, or rather, botanical skincare products.
Botanical Skincare Products
Recently we see a rise in botanical skincare products like the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner and the Neogen Real Flower Cleansing Water Rose. Both products not only make use of the botanical extract but also creates a pleasing aesthetics by including the actual rose petals in product.
Botanical extracts are packed with antioxidants and vitamins which are the main ingredients for anti-aging skincare. Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals in the environment, are anti-inflammatory and boosts skin elasticity, cell turnover and also builds collagen in the skin. Some of the widely used ingredients beside flowers are green tea, soy, caffeine and seeds.
Fermented Skincare Products
Similar to botanical skincare products, fermented skincare are also huge particularly in the Asian beauty industry. The most famous example would be SKII, in which the ingredient Pitera, are derived from galactomyces. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrates are extracted from yeast through a fermentation process. When the ingredients are fermented, antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, probiotics and enzymes are created which are super beneficial to the skin. The active ingredients are broken down into smaller molecules which makes the absorption much easier, faster and yield more effective results. Fermented skincare are also gentler on the skin and boosts the hydration level of the skin. More detailed information about fermented skincare can be found HERE.
Typically Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) or Beta-Hydroxy-Acids (BHA) are the most commonly used chemical exfoliants. AHA moisturizes and smoothes the skin, removes dead skin cells and are effective in brightening hyperpigmentation and combating wrinkles and fine lines. BHA penetrates deeper into the skin and are effective against clogged pores and blackheads, they are also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial so it is great for acne-prone skin.
Retinol also known as Vitamin A is an effective ingredient that transforms the skin and is definitely the star ingredient for anti-aging. Retinol increases the cell turnover rate and hence are effective in improving the skin tone and resurfacing the skin. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles and improves the skin barrier.
Vitamin C is one of the most effective way to brighten up the skin tone and not only that, it also increase the production of collagen and enhances the skin barrier and strengthen the skin from sun damages and speeds up skin reparation. Vitamin C often comes in the form of L-ascorbic acids, however this form of vitamin C is unstable and is prone to oxidization. Other forms of vitamin C includes ascorbyl palmitate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate.
